Alstom (www.alstom.com) has inaugurated Lucknow Metro, the first project for the company in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Alstom-built metros are designed in Bengaluru and manufactured at Sri City and Coimbatore, supporting the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.

In September 2015, Alstom was awarded a 150 million euro contract by Lucknow Metro Rail Corp (LMRC) to provide 20 four-car metro trains.

These trains will ‘circulate’ on the city’s new metro line, which will be around 23km long and include 22 stations (19 elevated and three underground).

It is estimated that the line will carry about 430,000 passengers a day at first, increasing to over one million by 2030.

Also included in the project is Alstom’s Urbalis CBTC (computer-based train control), the second such signalling system installed by the company in India. The system is jointly supplied by Alstom facilities in Bangalore and Saint-Ouen, France.

Currently, Alstom is undertaking metro projects in several Indian cities including Chennai, Kochi and Lucknow. Furthermore, Alstom has undertaken urban signalling and infrastructure projects in Kochi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Chennai, Jaipur and Delhi.
