Sony UK apprentice short-listed for awardSony UK Technology Centre (www.sonypencoed.co.uk) apprentice Jonathan Yates has been short-listed for a prestigious regional apprentice award as part of this year’s EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

The 19-year-old is in the running for the Intermediate and Advanced First Year Apprentice Award. He impressed the judges with his hard work, his dedication to his apprenticeship, and his determination to pursue a career in manufacturing.

Jonathan is now up against apprentices from across Wales, each looking to be crowned regional winner at a ceremony taking place in Cardiff on 6 November.

If successful, he will then go on to compete with other regional winners from across the UK for the national title, which will be announced at an awards dinner in London early next year.

Mr Yates said: “It’s such an honour to be recognised in this way. I know exactly how much hard work and dedication every apprentice puts into their apprenticeship, so being short-listed is very special.

"I can’t wait to meet the other apprentices and see how I get on at the awards ceremony. My apprenticeship has given me an invaluable opportunity to pursue a career in an exciting and vibrant sector, where I feel my achievements are valued.

"I hope other young people can see this and are inspired to pursue a career in manufacturing.”

Terry Scuoler, CEO of EEF (the manufacturers’ organisation), said: “Manufacturing is the cornerstone of British economic success.

“These awards go a small way towards recognising the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication that apprentices bring to the sector.

{It’s great to see Jonathan’s efforts being rewarded, and I wish him the best of luck at the regional awards
ceremony — and beyond.”
