British Steel recruits 58 manufacturing traineesScunthorpe-based British Steel (www.britishsteel.co.uk) has recruited 33 new trainees and is now looking for a further 25 to start in January.

They will be trained to perform various roles, including crane driving, fork-lift truck driving and machine operations.

Paul Martin, British Steel deputy CEO, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the new trainees to our business. There was great competition for the places, and after coming through a rigorous recruitment process, they have the opportunity to build excellent careers with us.

"More than 500 people have joined British Steel since our launch, and this latest recruitment drive underlines our commitment to training the next generation of steel-workers.

“We require a highly skilled workforce to manufacture the quality of steel our customers expect, and if we’re to build a sustainable future, it’s crucial to keep investing in our people and their training.

"Our new trainees will be based in manufacturing areas across our Scunthorpe site, and they will be directly involved in producing British Steel’s annual output of 2.8 million tonnes of steel.

They’ll receive comprehensive training — by our skilled employees and by staff from North Lindsey College."
