New £35 million aerospace engineering factoryBirmingham-based RLC has opened a £35 million 10,000m2 ‘state of the art’ factory in Newtownabbey, creating 85 jobs (www.rlc-group.com).

The aerospace engineering firm announced two years ago that it was to become the first tenant of Global Point Business Park, which is Invest NI’s largest industrial development site.

The company makes components for some of the best-known names in the aerospace sector, including Martin Baker and Rolls-Royce. It has a base in Crumlin, as well as facilities on the Isle of Man, in Lancashire and in Singapore.

Gordon Dyce, director of RLC Global Point, described the new factory as a “fantastic manufacturing facility”. He said: “The site continues to grow and expand in parallel with the workload from our ‘blue chip’ aerospace customers.

“This is a key manufacturing facility with a highly trained and capable workforce, using the latest techniques and equipment to make complex components. We have healthy order books and want to partner strategic vendors and supply chains in sharing in the growth for this sector and in this region.”

Paul Hamill, the mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, said that he was looking forward to seeing the facility reach its full potential in the months and years ahead.
