Newport Pagnell-based Schunk Intec Ltd (
www.gb.schunk.com) is expanding its 24V ‘mechatronic modular system’ by including an option to make it easier to switch from pneumatic solutions to 24V technology; Schunk ELP 24V linear modules are now available with an electrically activated holding brake.
In the event of a power failure, the brake maintains the position of the linear module and prevents any unintended ‘falling down’ of vertically arranged axes into the working area – even if the module is moving at full speed.
This feature is comparable with pneumatic actuator rod locks, preventing damage to parts and system components.
The operation of the brake is based on electric 24V technology; moreover, it can be retrofitted to existing Schunk ELP linear axes.
The brake, which is available in two sizes with holding forces of 70 or 180N, is particularly suitable for systems that are switched on and off frequently.
