Engine manufacturing rises in September

Engine manufacturing rises in September UK engine production rose in September, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) (www.smmt.co.uk).

Data shows that 248,463 engines were produced, compared to 239,086 in September 2016 — a rise of 3.9%.

Domestic demand rose by 11.1% (from 108,867 to 120,905), while export demand fell by 2.0% (from 130,219 to 127,558). More than two million new British engines were manufactured in the first three quarters of 2017 — a 5% increase on 2016.

SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: “UK engine manufacturing has repeatedly demonstrated the benefits of long-term investment in R&D and plants.

“It’s pleasing to see production exceed the two million mark already, but future success depends on strong demand at home and abroad.”
