Chessington-based Mollart Engineering (www.mollart.com) has fulfilled an order from a UK-based packaging company for a Prismabore PRB25 multi-axis two-spindle deep-hole drilling and milling centre.

The order was placed following the MACH 2016 exhibition at the NEC, and it was won against strong European competition, with the final purchase decision made following drilling trials that led to a dramatic improvement in production levels.

During visits to Mollart’s Chessington headquarters, the customer became aware of demonstrations being run on a Drillsprint LD2-750 two-spindle gun drill. As a result, this machine was also ordered.

The two machines are now being used to produce moulds for plastic bottles requiring a heavier wall section, incorporating pre-formed cores with accurate and uniform positioning of cooling holes within thin-wall sections of the moulds. The holes are between 3.3mm and 22mm in diameter and 400mm deep.

The Prismabore column-type PRB25 deep-hole drilling machine is a five-axis milling and gun-drilling centre with two independent spindles, able to produce multi-feature components in a single cycle.

Meanwhile, the Drillsprint LD2-750 is a flexibly configured light-duty gun-drilling machine able to produce holes between 2mm and 25mm in diameter and 750mm deep.
