Bombardier completes delivery of metro trains Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation (www.bombardier.com) and its Malaysian partner Hartasuma Sdn Bhd (www.aragroupco.com) have completed a 2012 contract to deliver 14 driverless Bombardier Innovia Metro 300 trains for Kuala Lumpur.

The lightweight aluminium four-car trains have been increasing capacity on the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit Line in Kuala Lumpur since the first vehicles began service in December 2016.

Jayaram Naidu, head of Bombardier Transportation in South East Asia, said: “Bombardier has been delivering sustainable rail transit solutions in Malaysia for 25 years, reflecting the strength of our technology and expertise.

We are very proud that our latest Innovia trains are boosting urban connectivity in the greater Kuala Lumpur area; 374 rail cars have been ordered, making it one of the largest Innovia fleets in the world.”

Final assembly and interior fit-out was carried out at the Bombardier Hartasuma Consortium facility in Westport, Malaysia. The Innovia Metro 300 trains can move up to 30,000 passengers per hour (in each direction), and passenger numbers on the Kelena Jaya Line have increased by 26% — to over 270,000 passengers daily — since early 2017.
