Engineering firm wins five-year facility contractA Wigan-based engineering company has won a prestigious five-year secured facilities contract with a ‘blue chip’ automotive OEM.

MES (NW) Ltd (www.mesnw.co.uk), which was launched in 2011, secured the deal with Getrag Ford Transmission GmbH at the automotive firm’s Liverpool facility.

The contract will be wide-ranging and involve electrical testing, calibration, pest control, medical waste disposal, roof maintenance, external grounds maintenance, road and car park sweeping, drain clearance, cleaning
windows and cladding, as well as various other cleaning tasks.

It will also encompass fire protection maintenance, as well as the annual inspection and cleaning of furnaces ducting.

MES (NW) will also be responsible for the inspection and servicing of the automotive OEM’s chilled-water plant, site CCTV security systems, parts-washing machine services and maintenance, servicing and gas safe inspection of boilers and heating systems, as well as rapid roller-door maintenance.

The contract will see MES (NW) double in size to 21 members of staff.

The company was formed by Neil Hodgkinson, managing director, who has 36 years under his belt, predominantly in the automotive industry, working for Tier One automotive suppliers.

He is flanked by Ged Walker, operations director, who has 25 years’ experience in the services sector, and Peter Hughes, QHSE and electrical director, with 25 years in the installation and services sector.

Mr Hodgkinson said: “We currently have over 20 customers in various sectors, and a tried and tested network of sub-contractors.

"We will have a look at any kind of contract and work all over the country. This latest contract is a significant investment in plant equipment and training for current and new staff.”

All MES (NW) staff are fully qualified and health and safety accredited, with training provision supplied by MES. The firm has attained ISO 9001, 14001, QHSAS 1800. It also has Safe Contractor NICEIC and CHAS.

Ian Miller of Getrag Ford Transmission GmbH said: “Prior to becoming our facility management (FM) contractor, MES (NW) tendered for — and subsequently won — many high-profile projects here at GFT Halewood.

"This enabled the company to prove its professionalism and technical competence. As the newly appointed FM contractor, it continues to provide a high-quality service, which is consistently delivered in a safe and efficient manner.”
