Doncaster-based trailer manufacturer Montracon (
www.montracon.com) is expecting to double its output after investing £4.5 million in new equipment and processes.
The company, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, manufactures 45 curtain-sided trailers a week, but with new spray booths and ovens, as well as improved production line processes, it is hoping to increase this figure to 90.
The refurbishment includes a higher roof, a semi-automated shot-blasting and painting facility, and new machinery, tooling and lighting, as well as a chassis cooling area. The upgraded facility now has five main halls and 35 production lines.
Peter Wright, production engineering manager, said: “The revamp took less than a year to complete, and we are pleased with the outcome.
"It’s a leap forward, with the old-fashioned paint booths gone. The new processes will mean better health-and-safety standards, improved quality, decreased lead times and a lower impact on the environment.”
