3D Systems (
www.3dsystems.com) has been awarded a new three-year contract by BMW for on-demand manufacturing (ODM) services, including the production of 3-D printed parts for design and functional prototypes.
Using stereolithography (SLA) and selective laser sintering (SLS) technologies, as well as providing finishing services such as painting, dying and tumbling, 3D Systems will produce prototype and functional interior and exterior automobile test parts for BMW (along with tools and fixtures).
These parts will be used during summer and winter ‘ride-out testing’ to verify their designs for proper fit and operation, as well as to understand how the components function in extremes of heat and cold.
Ziad Abou, senior vice president at 3D Systems, said: “3D Systems and BMW have been business partners for many years, and we’re pleased to expand our relationship through this contract.
“We have a depth of knowledge in the automotive industry, offering a complete end-to-end solution that includes not only our ODM services but also technology, materials and software.”
