Stockholm-based CorPower Ocean AB — founded in 2009 by Stig Lundbäck — has developed a compact high-efficiency Wave Energy Converter (WEC), inspired by the pumping principles of the human heart.
The device (pictured during dry testing) uses a power take-off system that combines the high load capabilities of hydraulic systems with the efficiency of mechanical drive systems to produce power (

The company has established an office in Kirkwall (Orkney) ahead of the deployment of a half-scale prototype of its WEC at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).
Its new Scottish subsidiary, CorPower Ocean Ltd, has taken on two employees: senior operations manager Robert Argo, formerly of tidal developer Scot-renewables, and senior operations engineer Mairi Dorward.
Patrik Moller, CorPower chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have our Scottish operations up and running, and to have attracted some top talent to our operations team. We are already seeing the immense value of working
in the Scottish ocean-energy ecosystem, with significant lessons learned from previous wave projects.
"We are looking forward to working closely with the Orkney supply chain that brings unique operational experience to the project, having deployed more ocean-energy devices than anywhere else in the world.”
