The CTX 2500|700 universal turning machine has been unveiled by Coventry-based DMG Mori UK Ltd (www.dmgmori.com).

Designed for machining components up to 366mm in diameter from billet, or 76mm from bar — and to a maximum length of 705mm — this machine is the first in the company’s range that allows users to turn grooves up to 12mm wide in CK45 steel and drill holes to 80mm diameter.

DMG Mori’s CTX 2500|700 combines the rigid machine bed and box guideway configuration of the NLX 2500|700 (of which more than 10,000 have been sold) with the VDI turret and Siemens 840D Solutionline control from the CTX beta 800.

DMG Mori’s proprietary CELOS app-based control and operating interface is included.

Machined precision and surface quality derive from the thermo-stability of the lathe, which has a spiral oil jacket around the spindle and coolant recirculation through the cast bed. A linear scale with a standard resolution of 0.01µm is fitted to the X axis for positional feedback.

Meanwhile, a rapid-traverse rate of 30m/min in the linear axes ensures short idle times, while a Y axis can be specified for turn-milling work.

The CTX 2500|700 has a TurnMaster main spindle — 26kW 4,000rev/min with 525Nm of torque (30kW 3,500rev/min with 1,194Nm of torque is an option) — and an 11kW 7,000rev/min counter-spindle with 70Nm of torque (or 32kW 5,000rev/min with 360Nm of torque).

A 6,000rev/min 32Nm cooled disc-type turret with VDI 40 interface is offered as standard; an 85Nm TorqueDrive and a 12,000rev/min SpeedDrive can be specified.

DMG Mori provides various automation solutions for the CTX 2500|700. In addition to the integrated bar-magazine connection, there is the option of automated chuck component load/unload via the company’s Robo2Go mobile robotic cell or GC gantry-type loaders.
