Productivity gains highlighted at WNT milling days

Productivity gains highlighted at WNT milling daysThe Sheffield-based tooling specialist WNT recently hosted two milling-strategy days — in conjunction with CAM specialist Open Mind and XYZ Machine Tools — at which visitors were introduced to the significant benefits delivered by the combination of cutting tool, software and machine technology.

Following on from similar events held at the AMRC in Sheffield, these days focused on the benefits of using WNT’s 3D Finish-series of circular-segment cutters in conjunction with Open Mind’s HyperMill MAXX CAD/CAM software and the latest in five-axis machine tool technology from XYZ.

There was a presentation on the cutters, software and machine before delegates got face-to-face with live demonstrations that showed how cycle time reductions of 90% can be achieved on finish-milling operations — without any deterioration in surface finish.

The part being machined in the demonstration was representative of components found across industry and invariably produced on five-axis machining centres such as the XYZ UMC-5X. It featured vertical walls and deep pockets requiring good access.

WNT managing director Tony Pennington said: “This series of milling-strategy days has proved extremely popular with customers. We will be hosting additional days at the end of February in Blackburn.”
