Rotalink gets the measure of concentricity

Rotalink gets the measure of concentricitySomerset-based Rotalink Ltd designs and manufactures miniature power transmission systems, motor/gearboxes, encoders and controllers for a global network of customers.

These products are used in a variety of applications, including cash machines, parking meters, vending machines, coffee machines, and lubrication systems.

The company recently required an accurate and repeatable measurement solution to ensure that it was consistently meeting the high quality standards and exceptionally tight tolerances required of its components.

The metrology specialist Bowers Group (www.bowersgroup.co.uk) suggested a roundness measurement instrument as an appropriate solution to measure the concentricity of Rotalink’s moulded gears; and after a demonstration, the latter bought an Accretech Rondcom 41C, which now provides the fast, easy and accurate measurement of both form and concentricity.

This instrument also offers a high level of straightness accuracy, which was particularly important for Rotalink, as the accurate measurement of squareness to a plane is critical in the manufacture of high-quality precision gears.

Rotalink quality engineer Jeremy White said: “There are now endless possibilities when it comes to ensuring the accuracy of each design and component.

"As far as concentricity is concerned, the Accretech Rondcom 41C is exceptionally accurate. We received excellent initial training, and since we’ve had the Rondcom, we’ve learned even more about its capabilities; it is certainly proving to be an asset to our business.”
