Established in 1979 to provide tool-room services for local North East businesses, NTG Precision Engineering (
www.ntg-ltd.co.uk) quickly gained an excellent reputation for the quality of its work; today, the company is a major supplier of precision-machined components to a wide variety of industrial sectors in the UK, the rest of Europe and the USA.
With a comprehensive array of CNC machines — including advanced five-axis machining centres — NTG is ISO 9001:2008-certified and has held the GTMA’s ‘World Class’ precision-machining accreditation since 2008.
The mainstay of the company’s quality and inspection provision was a pair of Aberlink co-ordinate measuring machines, but the need for its inspection department to keep pace with production recently prompted the purchase of a third CMM from Gloucestershire-based Aberlink (
www.aberlink.com).
NTG operations manager Mark Withycombe said: “Increased levels of business activity meant that we needed a further CMM for our inspection department. Although we were very happy with our previous two Aberlink CMMs, we looked at a couple of alternative machines because they might have advanced technically.
“However, we were satisfied that Aberlink’s Axiom Too CMM best suited our needs, and we were happy to remain loyal to the brand.
“Now installed and fully operational, our latest machine can get through large volumes of precision-component inspection routines, removing the potential for delays.
“Moreover, given the nature of many of the industries we serve — such as oil and gas, sub-sea, power generation and automotive — the ability to offer the highest standard of component inspection is a prerequisite for gaining contracts.
“In addition to providing the required accuracy and speed, it helps that our three Aberlink CMMs can automatically generate the detailed inspection reports required by our customers.”
