Hertfordshire-based Ambar Kelly, which provides a range of safety products for the construction industry, has taken delivery of a Nukon Rex 4kW fibre laser from Kidderminster-based Nukon UK (
www.nukon.co.uk).
This ‘state of art’ machine has exceeded the customer’s expectations, with its high-speed laser cutting reducing production times and costs in comparison with the company’s previous CO2 laser.
The Nukon Rex has a 1,530 x 3,050mm shuttle table and a heavy-duty steel frame that is heat-treated during manufacture, so it moves as one solid body, minimising distortion and vibration.
Alex Bardett, managing director of Ambar Kelly, said: “The Nukon Rex machine is five-times faster than our old CO2 laser machine. It is cutting with compressed air at 9 bar with a perfect clean cut and has resulted in substantial cost savings, as nitrogen and oxygen are no longer required.”
Howard Hayward, Nukon UK sales manager, said: “We took representatives from Ambar Kelly to the Nukon factory in Turkey to see its specialist manufacturing sub-contract division cutting parts, and they were suitably impressed.
“What Ambar Kelly used to produce in a week on its old CO2 laser can now be produced in hours, and as a result of the significant time savings, the company is looking to expand its manufacturing services.”
Mark Lewis, Nukon managing director, said: “Nukon is the only fibre laser manufacturer I know that runs its own commercial sub-contract division to prove the effectiveness of its machines. It cuts up to 8,000 tonnes of steel on
average a month.
“Having experience of repairing and refurbishing CNC sheet metal machines at my MTL Engineering business, I felt there was a real gap in the UK market for these cost-effective fibre lasers — hence the formation of Nukon UK.
“With the support of MTL we can offer our customers a first-class service and support network with a team of experienced engineers around the UK.”
