Grooving tool with four cutting edges

Grooving tool with four cutting edgesThe Walter Cut MX from Bromsgrove-based Walter GB Ltd (www.walter-tools.com) is a grooving and parting-off tool that combines four cutting edges and three geometries in a single system.

Cutting depths up to 6mm and cutting widths of 0.8-3.25mm are available as standard; non-standard sizes and versions can be supplied via the Walter Xpress bespoke tooling service.

Walter says that the efficiency of the system is such that only one type of cutting insert is required for both the left- and right-hand tool-holder; and if one cutting edge breaks, work can continue with the three remaining edges.

Inserts are available with three chip-former types — GD8, CF5 and RF — with the CF5 sintered chip geometry providing high levels of chip control at light feeds, says the company.

A self-aligning tangential clamping system and dowel pin location in the insert seat provide stability and prevent inserts being fitted incorrectly.
