Last month, CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd (www.crc.chinacnr.com) introduced its latest generation of small- and medium-capacity straddle-type monorail train — a type that has won the favour of many cities for its small footprint, high climbing capacity and energy-saving features.

CRRC says that the new train, which is based on more than 10 years of operational experience and research data, uses the latest developments in automatic driving and permanent-magnet traction; it is also resistant to the effects of cold and snow.

Furthermore, compared to the previous generation, it has more passenger capacity and weighs less.

The use of an advanced bi-axial bogie and an air-sprung suspension system has solved problems relating to the stability and comfort of monorail vehicles, and all the “running gears” are located beneath the floor, making the interior more spacious.
