Stadler (
www.stadlerrail.com) has received an order from AB Transitio for eight more double-decker electric multiple units (EMUs); this forms part of the contract signed in 2016 relating to 33 EMUs with an option of 110.
The trains will be used by Sweden’s Uppsala Länstrafik for commuter and regional transport services. The trains in question are designed to offer “excellent resistance” to severe winter weather, as demonstrated by their use in Norway, Finland, Estonia, Russia and Belarus.
They feature closed engine rooms, double-wall inter-car gangways, snow-scrapers between the bogies and carriage bodies, a heat recovery system, floor heating and high-quality insulation.
As part of this current order, Stadler will again involve Swedish suppliers such as Icomera, Kockum Sonics, AF-Infrastructure and Hö̈k Instrument.
The trains have been designed to be economic to run, with the extensive use of aluminium minimising their weight, while the use of dry transformers means that do not require oil as a coolant.
Already in use on Stadler FLIRT EMUs, this system cuts energy consumption by about 8%.
