Rugby-based Mapal Ltd (www.mapal.com) will give a UK exhibition premiere to a range of new products (Hall 17 Stand 420).

For instance, the arrival of the CPR500/510 replaceable-head reamer will be a centrepiece of the hole-making series with its optimised cooling channels.

These CVD-coated reamers are designed to extend tool life, as the solid-carbide replaceable heads feature a new coating technology that has been specially developed for machining castings.

Available in diameters from 8 to 40mm, the CPR500/510 features a newly developed cooling sleeve; the issue of cooling is critical when machining castings due to the abrasiveness of the material, but with these cutters, fluid is optimally directed at the cutting edges.

Also on show will be a complete programme of ISO indexable inserts for boring steel, stainless steel and heat-resistant cast steel.

Available as standard or special designs, this ISO indexable-insert series incorporates new PVD and CVD coating developments.

In 2016, Mapal released its Tritan-Drill with three cutting edges. This range has now been extended with a specially adapted version for machining steel (Tritan-Drill-Steel).

For manufacturers looking for innovative milling solutions, the company will be extending its programme of solid-carbide milling cutters for roughing applications with the OptiMill-Uni-Wave.

This full-slot milling series makes groove depths up to 2x¥D possible.

According to Mapal, a ductile carbide substrate with a wear-resistant coating and special edge preparation means that the OptiMill-Uni-Wave offers higher performance levels than previous HPC (high-performance cutting) milling cutters, while tool life is 50% longer.

The five cutting edges are spaced unevenly, and the cutters are available in short, long, over-long and extra-long sizes in the HB shank form with a diameter range from 4 to 25mm.

For face-milling operations, the exhibition will see the UK introduction of a new generation of milling tools for cutting depths up to 4mm.
