BHEL wins order for nuclear steam turbine Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) (www.bhel.com) has secured an order worth about $116 million from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) for steam turbine generators.

These will be used for a 700MWe pressurised heavy-water reactor (PHWR) to be installed at the Gorakhpur nuclear power plant in the Fatehabad district of Haryana.

They will be manufactured at the Tiruchirappalli plant of BHEL, which has so far supplied 38 steam turbine generators for various nuclear power installations in India.

Currently, BHEL-manufactured steam turbine generators contribute nearly half of the country’s installed nuclear power capacity.

BHEL is the only Indian company associated with all three stages of the Indian Nuclear Power Programme: the first-stage PHWR, the second-stage fast-breeder reactor (FBR), and the third-stage advanced heavy-water reactor (AHWR).

For over four decades, the company has been a partner in the development of India’s Nuclear Power Programme (since
its inception).

BHEL has the infrastructure and skilled manpower to design, manufacture and test the various components of nuclear power plants, while complying with international codes and standards.
