Touch Bionics in £5.6 million funding boostIceland-based Össur hf is to invest £5.6 million over a three-year period to develop ground-breaking myoelectric prosthetic hand and arm solutions at its Touch Bionics facility in Livingston.

The company’s investment is being supported by a £1.3 million grant from Scottish Enterprise.

Touch Bionics, which was acquired by Össur in 2016, has worked closely with Scottish Enterprise for the past 15 years (www.touchbionics.com).

On a visit to the company, Scottish government business minister Paul Wheelhouse said: “Encouraging companies to invest in innovation and increase their international reach is a priority for us, and Touch Bionics is a fantastic example of this, helping people to perform everyday activities with ease.”

Össur has continued investing in Touch Bionics’ R&D operations. As a result, the companys product line has continued to grow, along with its overall capabilities for accelerating innovation in upper limb prosthetic technologies.

Hugh Gill, vice-president of R&D at Touch Bionics, said: “The continuing support from both Scottish Enterprise and Össur has enabled us to continue accelerating the innovation of potentially breakthrough technologies, so we can help even more people with upper limb loss.”
