Trelleborg Sealing Solutions is expanding its research and development capabilities in Stuttgart.
The new Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Innovation Center (
www.trelleborg.com) provides 50% more space for R&D purposes plus a 300m
2 showroom area dedicated to R&D and product innovations. Staff have begun moving in, and the official opening is planned for September.
R&D director Konrad Saur said: “Innovation is not only about new products and materials, but also advances in analytical and technical capabilities to support problem resolution and to accelerate technological breakthroughs.”
The new centre will have laboratories with the latest analytical and measurement equipment, next to innovation and prototype facilities, as well as a major test area with a fully equipped tool-room and materials laboratory.
Its capabilities will range from standard mechanical testing to material analysis, including thermal gravimetric analysis, digital scanning calorimetry and fourier-transform infra-red spectroscopy — all alongside a high-resolution scanning electron microscope.
Professor Saur said: “With such capabilities at hand, complex problems can be assessed and brought to resolution rapidly.
"These capabilities support material and product development efforts, fundamental research of sealing designs and interactions in sealing systems, as well as root cause and failure analysis in production and from the field.”
