West Midlands-based Engineering Technology Group (ETG) (
www.engtechgroup.com), one of the UK’s leading machine tool suppliers, has appointed a new service manager to help it meet increased demand from precision engineering companies looking for maximum performance from their machines.
The company, which has seen its sales rise to a record level in 2018, has promoted Tim Dean to lead its new service and maintenance team and help its customers to reduce down-time.
He joined the company in 2012 as a field service engineer, before becoming a specialist on the German machine tools in its range, including Bavius, Chiron and STAMA.
He is looking to implement a training programme that will see all of ETG’s 20 service engineers develop a level of skill across all the machines it sells and supplies.
Mr Dean said: “This is a very exciting time to be leading our service team, and I’ve been given the freedom to try out some new ideas that will deliver a host of benefits to our clients.
“Making our engineers more versatile is the key priority, and we have a plan in place to make this happen, but it won’t be at the expense of our specialists, there’s still very much a role for them in modern-day manufacturing.
“The last 12 months have seen the demand for quicker response times grow massively, with many companies running their machines at full speed for longer durations in a bid to meet customer volume increases and shorter lead times.
“This can be offset by putting in place an effective maintenance programme that minimises down-time and reduces the risk of machines breaking down. This is a key message we are trying to get across to all of our clients.”
