August global sales figures slightly down for Kia Korea’s Kia Motors Corporation (www.kia.com) has announced its August 2018 global sales figures for passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles, recording a total of 223,648 units sold — a slight decrease from August 2017.

Overseas sales fell by 2.0% (compared to August 2017) to 179,448 units. Strong sales of RVs continued despite the sales decline. The Sportage saw sales rise by more than 16%, setting a record fifth straight month of double-digit year-on-year sales growth.

Sales in Korea totalled 44,200 units, representing a 7.7% year-on-year increase. The company’s K900 luxury saloon continued to have a strong month, passing the 1,000-units mark for the fifth consecutive month.

Kia’s best-selling model in global markets during August 2018 was the Sportage compact SUV, with 41,040 units sold.

The Sorento mid-size SUV was the second-best seller, with 25,261 units sold, followed by the Rio sub-compact saloon, with 23,746 units sold.

Kia says it expects to maintain its sales momentum in the remainder of the second half, with the launch of new products such as the all-new Forte, which went on sale in various regions last month.
