The Multiside range of cutters from Chesterfield-based Dormer Pramet (www.dormerpramet.com) has been designed for milling a variety of ‘exotic’ materials, including titanium and high-temperature alloys, and it comprises three types — AD, SC and SD.

These accommodate a variety of operations, including shoulder milling, slot milling, copy milling and face milling, as well as progressive plunging and roughing.

A key feature of the Multiside range is its patented SideLok clamping system, which is said by the company to be an extremely efficient and secure way of holding inserts, providing a high level of stability — especially in the five-axis machining of complex surfaces.

This stability allows increased metal removal rates to be achieved — even in difficult-to-machine materials.

Because there is no need to accommodate a central fixing, the insert itself is much stronger, while the design of the seating location allows more of the insert to be engaged.

Another benefit of the SideLok system is that there is no need to remove screws from the body when indexing the inserts, speeding up the process.

A wide range of insert shapes and radius sizes from 0.4 to 6.0mm is available, with chip-breakers designed for materials commonly used in high-temperature environments.

A wiper insert option offers improved surface finish, while the cutters’ close pitch results in reduced machining time and increased productivity.

To further support specific applications, the Multiside range can be offered as custom tooling to meet a variety of bespoke requirements.
