Coventry-based Jaguar Land Rover Classic (
www.jaguar.com) is planning to produce an electric version of its E-type sports car — called the Zero.
The new car will feature similar technology to that in the new Jaguar I-Pace; apart from zero emissions, it promises to have even quicker acceleration than the original Series 1 E-type.
The company will be offering tailor-made E-types that have been restored and converted to electric power at its Special Vehicle Operations facility in Ryton, as well as an electric vehicle (EV) conversion for existing E-type owners.
Tim Hanning, Jaguar Land Rover Classic director, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the Jaguar E-type Zero concept.
“Future-proofing the enjoyment of classic car ownership is a major stepping stone for us.
The car showcases the incredible heritage of the E-type, plus the expertise and craftsmanship at Classic Works, while demonstrating Jaguar Land Rover’s dedication to creating zero-emission vehicles across every part of the business.”
The company is targeting a range in excess of 170 miles for the all-electric E-types, helped by the car’s low kerb weight and sleek aerodynamics.
The concept is powered by a 40kWhr battery, which can be recharged in 6-7hr (depending on the power source).
Apart from its ‘state of the art’ powertrain, modified instrumentation and fascia showcasing the latest touch-screen ‘infotainment’ (available as an option), the E-type Zero concept is largely original.
Deliveries of the first electric E-type vehicles are expected to start in the summer of 2020.
