Locomotive and rail equipment manufacturer Transmashholding-Hungary
www.tmholding.ru (a Russian-Hungarian consortium) has signed a contract to supply Egyptian National Railways (ENR) with 1,300 passenger carriages.
Manufacturing companies from China, Italy, India and Romania were among other bidders.
The overall cost of the rolling stock to be produced and delivered under the contract exceeds 1 billion euros, making it the largest yet in the history of Egyptian railways.
It is planned that Tver Carriage Works (TVZ, a subsidiary of JSC Transmashholding) will be the key manufacturer of components, while TMH Engineering (also a subsidiary of JSC Transmashholding) will be the design authority.
It is expected that half of the carriages will be manufactured at the Hungarian facility of Dunakeszi Jarmujavito in conjunction with TVZ, while the rest will be produced by TVZ on a stand-alone basis.
The project also anticipates the delivery of components and sub-assemblies for final fitting at a carriage-building plant to be constructed by TMH International AG (another JSC Transmashholding subsidiary) in partnership with Egypt’s National Organisation for Military Production.
The contract relates to the following carriage specifications: 500 third-class with forced ventilation; 500 third-class with air conditioning; 180 second-class with air conditioning; 90 first-class with air conditioning; and 30 second-class with air conditioning and cafeteria.
