The international optics and optoelectronics company Zeiss will be hosting a free seminar — From Powder to Performance — at the AMRC Knowledge Transfer Centre near Sheffield on 21 February.
The seminar will focus on additive manufacturing (AM), which is increasingly becoming part of industrial production chains.
This is especially true in safety-critical areas such as aerospace, medical technology and automotive, for which a particular challenge is to prove the absolute reliability of AM (3-D printed) parts.
To address this need, Zeiss has created an integrated inspection process called Zeiss 3D ManuFact, which brings together its expertise in material microscopy, 3-D scanning, computed tomography, tactile and optical measurement, and data analysis tools.
The seminar will cover the following topics as they relate to AM: light, X-ray and scanning electron microscopy techniques; powder characterisation, grain orientation and compositional mapping; CT inspection and measurement solutions; 3-D scanning solutions; and quality data management.
Those attending the seminar will be able to network with leading technologists and researchers and take a tour of the AMRC facility.
Full details of the seminar can be found at the Web site (
