Manufacturers processing small turned parts that require internal turning and threading operations will be familiar with the issues created by poor swarf clearance, with insufficient chip evacuation resulting in tool breakages, inconsistent tool life, poor surface finishes and unscheduled down-time (caused by swarf wrapping around the tool-holders).

Hemel Hempstead-based NTK Cutting Tools says its new Stick Duo Splash turning line can

The Stick Duo Splash is available in two variants: one with a single coolant outlet directed to the tip of the insert; the other with two outlets that deliver cutting fluid to both the front and rear side of the tool insert (this has been designed for evacuating chips during the processing of blind holes, while the single-outlet tool is suitable for machining through-holes and bores).

The Stick Duo Splash tool-holder cartridge has been designed for use with machine tools that have both standard and through-coolant delivery configurations.

Moreover, the design of the cartridge is such that users can attach the coolant hose to either a screw hole at the rear end of the cartridge or a connection point at the front of the tool cartridge, allowing the Stick Duo Splash to accommodate the various tooling configurations and set-ups of small turning centres and sliding-head machines with compact work envelopes.

In addition, an adjustable insert screw allows the tool overhang of the solid-carbide inserts to be adjusted.

Stick Duo Splash cartridges are offered with diameters of 16, 19.05, 20, 22, 25 and 25.4mm with overall lengths of 90, 110, 120 and 125mm.

Each of these cartridges can have an insert hole diameter of 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 5 or 6mm to fit the respective carbide inserts.
