Coventry-based Arrowsmith Engineering, an aerospace sub-contract specialist, invested in five new Doosan machine
tools supplied by Mills CNC (
www.mills cnc.co.uk) in the second half of 2018.
The four Lynx 2100-series lathes and one DNM 4500 vertical machining centre have been put to work machining a range of complex high-precision parts — specifically aero-engine and aircraft braking system com-ponents.
Made from various materials — including titanium, nimonics, nickel-based alloys and magnesium — these parts are machined to exacting accuracy and surface finish requirements.
Arrowsmith Engineering (
www.arrowsmitheng.co.uk) was established in 1967 and is a major player in the aerospace supply chain.
As well as producing high-quality machined parts in large and small batches, the company offers specialised non-destructive testing and pressure-testing services. It also operates in the energy, nuclear and motor-sport sectors.
Managing director Jason Aldridge said: “If you’re not investing in the future, you are moving backwards.
“We are part of the global aerospace supply chain, so we are competing every day with the very best manufacturing companies in the world.
"Everything we do is built around supplying our customers with high-quality machined parts — delivered on time and in budget.
"We assess and review our performance continually. If improvements can be made, we make them.”
This commitment to continuous improvement has seen the company make significant modifications to its facility, including the creation of discrete sections dedicated to turning, mill-turning and milling (including five-axis) machining.
