Being held 15-16 May at the AMRC Factory 2050 in Sheffield, Winning the Weight Race takes a closer look at the technologies and processes that are essential to the UK economy winning the ‘global weight race’ by manufacturing lighter planes, trains and cars that improve efficiency and reduce costs.
This conference brings together policy makers, industry leaders and manufacturing researchers who will provide insights into the future of mobility through presentations and real-world technology demonstrators.
These will range from machining thin-wall aerostructures and the additive manufacture of satellite components for space, to innovative castings for complex airframes, the design of joints containing dissimilar materials and the manufacture of complex technical textiles for composite applications.
Presentations and demonstrations will include those by Tata Steel, BAE Systems, Shape Machining, Tinsley Bridge, Lotus, ACT Blades, Laing O’Rourke, Ultimate Battery Co, Northern Aircraft, University of Sheffield.
The sectors and technologies covered will include aerospace, automotive, construction, rail, space, composites manufacturing, machining, casting, high-strength and lightweight metals, additive manufacturing and battery technology.
