British luxury car maker Aston Martin Lagonda unveiled its first all-electric model — the Rapide E — at the Auto Shanghai show (held at the end of April).
Just 155 examples of the car — developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering — will be built at Aston Martin’s new St Athan site in Wales.
With twin electric motors producing 950Nm of torque, it is the most powerful Rapide model yet.
Meanwhile, the AM-RB 003 concept car unveiled at Auto Shanghai is the first taster of what will become Aston Martin’s third mid-engined hyper-car.
Heavily influenced by the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the AM-RB 003 is being developed in partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies.
Described as both evolutionary and revolutionary, the AM-RB 003 will incorporate F1 technologies that give it unparalleled levels of performance.
Aston Martin Lagonda also provided a glimpse of the first production model from its Lagonda brand — the All-Terrain Concept, which will also incorporate zero-emission power-train technologies.
Marek Reichman, chief creative officer at Aston Martin Lagonda (
www.astonmartin.com), said: “Unveiling Rapide E is a milestone for Aston Martin, kick-starting a new era for its powertrain strategy.
“The Chinese market continues to be strong for us, as we see the benefits of the investments we made to strengthen our brand and our sales infrastructure throughout the region.”
