ScotRail has introduced the first-ever Hitachi class 385 electric train on the Edinburgh to Glasgow (via Shotts) line.
Following the completion of Network Rail’s £160 million electrification of the line, the rail operator can now run electric trains along this route, and it launched the first customer service at the end of April.
More than 50 of the class 385 trains are now in use on seven ScotRail routes.
They are 18% more energy-efficient than the diesel trains they are replacing; they also make less noise.
