Academics at Loughborough University are working on a £4.5 million project to improve the efficiency of heavy-duty vehicles. The Energy Technologies Institute (a public-private partnership) has enlisted the help of engineers at the university to look into making exhaust systems for diesel engines more energy-efficient.
The project will be led by Johnson Matthey, which will work alongside ETI member Caterpillar. The work by the university will be carried out by the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan, who attended the project launch, said: “Developments in heavy-duty vehicle energy efficiency technology improvement are essential for the future of the UK’s HDV fleet. I’m pleased to see that two of the key organisations behind the project are from Loughborough.”
