The future of the UK’s automotive supply chain and the current work of the Automotive Council will be discussed at an Open Forum in Coventry on 21 March. This event, organised by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders, will look at the industry trends of one of the few sectors offering signs of growth in the UK economy.
Speakers at the event will include: Dave Allen, acting chairman (supply chain) at Jaguar Land Rover; Mick Aiers, purchasing manager at General Motors; Chris Gane, managing director of Caparo Materials Engineering; and Andy Wareing, general manager ( purchasing) at Nissan Europe.
Delegates will hear first-hand accounts of the opportunities in the UK supply chain, the work undertaken by the Automotive Council and the business outlook in 2013. The first speaker session will focus on the Automotive Council’s achievements to date, as well as activities undertaken by the Government.
The second half of the event will focus on the new business opportunities available to the automotive supply chain following the surge of investment during the last two years.
Paul Everitt, the SMMT’s chief executive, said: “2012 was a positive year for UK automotive, with sustained investment from global vehicle manufacturers, vehicle output at its highest since 2008, and industry breaking all-time export records for cars.
“It’s essential that we do all we can to maintain this momentum; a thriving supply chain is vital to the future success of the wider automotive industry. SMMT’s Open Forum aims to help automotive suppliers at every level of the chain make the most of new business opportunities, providing a unique chance to network with colleagues and find out more about the support available.”
