Fife manufacturer awarded ‘All Star’ statusFife-based G&H Glenrothes, a high-tech manufacturer, has won a national best-practice award from Sharing in Growth (SiG) for achieving record output.

The company, which is part of the G&H Group and employs around 70 skilled staff making precision optical components, was congratulated by the Scottish Parliament through a motion proposed by Jenny Gilruth, MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes.

G&H invited Ms Gilruth and other VIPs to tour the factory, meet staff and hear how the G&H team won the SiG All Star award.

As part of the global G&H advanced optical engineering and manufacturing group, G&H Glenrothes took on the target of increasing its output by 23% in 2018.

It worked with SiG — the Government-backed competitiveness improvement programme — to implement world-class manufacturing techniques, such as value stream mapping, waste elimination and continuous flow production.

With SiG training in lean manufacturing, the company rose to the challenge and beat the target by delivering a 29% increase in output and a 200% improvement in year-on-year profits.

It also achieved record monthly sales.

The changes meant that the company was more competitive; as a result, it has secured contracts worth £16 million and is looking to recruit additional engineers.
