Bombardier recently celebrated the entry-into-service of the latest addition to its ‘Global’ family — the ‘Global 6500’ jet.
This achievement comes on the heels of Transport Canada certification of both the Global 5500 and Global 6500 (awarded on September 24).
The aircraft will make its public debut at the
National Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Las Vegas on 22 October.
The aircraft has been through a rigorous flight testing programme, which was completed at Bombardier’s test centre in Wichita, Kansas.
The Pearl 15 engine, the latest addition to Rolls-Royce’s business aviation engine portfolio, received EASA certification in 2018 and Transport Canada certification recently.
The engine, developed at the ‘Rolls-Royce Centre of Excellence for Business Aviation engines’ in Dahlewitz, Germany, was custom-designed to power the Global 5500 and Global 6500 aircraft.
With the purpose-built engines, advanced wing design and built-in systems redundancy and robustness, the aircraft is said to offer high levels of safety and a smooth ride for passengers.
The new Rolls-Royce Pearl engines also make the Global 6500 aircraft a ‘particularly clean and efficient’ business jet; offering a class-leading range of 6,600 nautical miles and a top speed of Mach 0.90, it can connect New York to Dubai and Hong Kong to London.
