Malaysian contract for MTE#oilandgas #engineering #ukmfg Darlington-based MTE Ltd, which makes fire and blast-proof protection for energy projects, has won two contracts to protect hundreds of workers off the Malaysian coast.

The North East company is working with oil and gas specialist Jurunature, to build and supply heat-shields for platforms in the South China Sea. The contract follows a recent £4.5 million contract to supply 25,000m2 of carbon steel for fire walls and blast walls destined for Australia.

The latest deal will see the firm make protective equipment for gas-turbine generator exhaust pipes on the Petronas Kinabalu field, off the coast of Sabah, East Malaysia, and heat-shields for a bridge between offshore platforms on the Telok gas development field.

Founded in 1969, as MechTool Engineering, the company employs more than 170 staff and has its headquarters and fabrication plant in Darlington; MTE also has a manufacturing operation on the River Tees, in Middlesbrough.

For the year ending March, the company had a turnover of more than £16 million and profits of £600,000.
