Moreover, ther new vehicle is capable of accommodating a four-cylinder engine, as well as a new diesel hybrid, likely to be available from next year. A spokesman said: “The Range Rover Sport benefits from 75% ‘unique’ parts, a significant number of which will directly influence the way it looks and feels”.
The vehicle was launched at the New York Motor Show in March (Manhattan remains the model’s largest single market). The firm says that it also has ‘high hopes’ for the Sport in new markets such as China and Russia, as well as the sub-Saharan area of Africa.
Meanwhile, a special edition of the Land Rover Defender — the LXV — has been produced to commemorate its 65th anniversary. Since its inception in 1948, more than two million Defenders have been sold around the world. There will only be 65 LXVs available in hard-top form in the UK. The LXV is based on the standard Land Rover Defender and is equipped with a 2.2-litre diesel engine and six-speed manual transmission.
A spokesman said: “Investing in innovation has always been the life-blood of Land Rover, and we will continue to develop innovative new technology and sustainable motoring solutions for the future, whilst retaining the class-leading and legendary breadth of capability that Land Rover’s heritage is built upon.”
