The series of MicroCut small turning and parting-off tools from Hinckley-based Advanced Carbide Tooling Ltd (ACT)
(www.advanced carbidetooling.co.uk) has now been extended to incorporate new inserts. They are available in widths from 0.5 to 1.6mm, with new carbide/ TiALN-coated and HSS/TiN-coated inserts (these insert dimensions suit ISO standard circlip grooves).
The new TiAlN coating has been added to a super-fine micro-grain carbide. This gives the inserts an extremely sharp edge that is resistant to chipping and ensures good tool life and high levels of surface finish.
The new HSS TiN-coated inserts are particularly suitable for machining small diameters; they provide the combination of a tough substrate with an extremely sharp cutting edge. The maximum insert reach is 8mm to allow end users to part off up to 16mm-diameter solid bar.
The MicroCut inserts can be held in tool-holders with dimensions down to 8 ¥ 8mm for particularly small tool platens; they also extend up to 20 x 20mm shanks for larger parting-off and grooving applications.
