The positions — initially for 10 engineers (electrical, mechanical, systems and cabin) — are the first manufacturing-related jobs announced for the company’s US aircraft assembly line.
Eight of these employees will begin their roles in November; the other two in January 2014. The successful candidates will receive their training with the Airbus manufacturing teams in Hamburg and Toulouse — and possibly Tianjin, China — before returning to Mobile.
Manufacturing engineers are responsible for managing non-conformities/design deviation and late changes to support aircraft production. They answer technical questions, prepare new modifications for country-specific constraints and explain work orders and drawings.
On 2 July 2012, Airbus announced that it is building an assembly line for its A320 Family of aircraft in Mobile. The ground-breaking ceremony for the assembly line was on 8 April 2013, and major construction work begins this summer.
