
#manufacturing #jcb A fleet of eight 20-tonne JCB JS200 ‘crawler’ excavators has been bought by a construction company and is now working on one of the biggest-ever high-way projects in the Caribbean.
Construtura OAS purchased the excavators, which were made in Uttoxeter, to work on the $7.5 billion Solomon Hochoy highway extension project in Trinidad and Tobago.
This road is the major north-south highway in Trinidad and Tobago, connecting Chaguanas with San Fernando. Originally built as a two-lane road in the early 1970s, it was expanded to a four-lane highway later in the decade. The Ministry of Works and Transport is now extending the road to Point Fortin. The excavators were bought from JCB’s distributor in Trinidad & Tobago, FT Farfan.
Trinidad and Tobago has a population of around 1.3 million people. Its economy is primarily industrial, with an emphasis on petroleum and petrochemicals.
