#manufacturing #engineering Bromsgrove-based HME Technology has won a £75,000 contract for design and technology equipment from Harborne Academy, which is part of Birmingham Metropolitan College. Managing director Julian Davis said that more educational establishments should link up with the engineering sector: “Schools are being encouraged to build bridges with industry, as it is recognised — since the banking crisis — that manufacturing and engineering must play a greater part in a re-balanced UK economy.

“The sector offers an excellent career path, vital skills and well remunerated employment. Birmingham was famed as the City of a Thousand Trades, and it is good to see that schools and industry are again working in partnership to once more bring out such abilities in its young people.”

HME Technology was founded in 1984; its product range includes forges, brazing hearths, furnaces, welding tables, fume extraction systems, kilns, wood-working equipment and CNC machines. It also supplies fume cupboards and ventilation systems for science departments.
