Rolls-Royce has won a contract worth £111.5 million to supply equipment and services for a gas pipeline between Kazakhstan and China. The Derby-based company’s Quebec and Mount Vernon facilities will supply Asia Gas Pipeline — a joint venture between Kazakhstan’s Kaz Munai Gaz and China’s National Petroleum Corporation — with 12 RB211 gas turbine-driven pipeline compressor units that will operate at four compressor stations along the 1,115km Line C Pipeline. This is part of a 1,833km-long pipeline network that, when it reaches full capacity in 2016, will transport gas from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, to China.

Beimbet Shayakhmetov, general director of Asia Gas Pipeline, said: “The AGP Pipeline will help to meet Kazakhstan’s domestic energy needs and to stabilise China’s energy consumption with cleaner natural gas. Given the huge scale and tight construction schedule of this project, we need on-time delivery of reliable and efficient technology. Rolls-Royce’s proven technology provides an excellent fit, and we are delighted to again co-operate with them to support us in transportation of the gas.”
