At the beginning of March, Plzen-based Skoda Electric achieved yet another success in the Chinese market, when the Czech company signed a new contract on the delivery of drives and motors for 40 metro train sets that will be used in the Chinese city of Suzhou. The contract is worth more than 1.1 billion crowns.
In Suzhou, which has around seven million inhabitants, Skoda Electric has a production base within the framework of its joint Czech and Chinese company Skoda Kingway Electric, which was established in 2010 and employs around 150 people.
The first train sets will be in operation on the new No 4 line in Suzhou by next year. The main deliveries of 40 vehicles should take place in 2015 and 2016.
