Raising the bar in bar-feed technology

Raising the bar in bar-feed technology Making its exhibition debut at MACH will be the new MSV80 from Hydrafeed (www.hydrafeed.co.uk) — a full servo-driven bar-feed system that eliminates the need for compressed air (Hall 5 Stand 5030). It will be joined by the new smaller MSV65, as well as established products such as the MV65, MX1B, Extract and RotaRack units.

As standard, the MSV80 offers complete servo control on all axes via precision-ground ballscrews. These ensure a bar positional accuracy of 0.1mm for a standard bar diameter range of 5-80mm; bar length capacity is 200-1,550mm. Bespoke solutions are also available to suit the individual customer.

Additional standard features include: bar length measurement with the ability to accept random bar lengths; a bar-feed or shaft loading system; a push-rod backstop facility; and a user-friendly HMI screen displaying the 100 part program storage system. Furthermore, a new loading mechanism ensures that bars are ‘soft’-loaded from the storage magazine.

With the unit operated via an HMI screen that accepts all values and stores production information, change-over times are simply a case of keying in alternative bar diameters. Further simplifying the set-up process is the fact that the MSV80 is fixed to a floor-mounted sliding rail. Once the bar-feed has been moved from the home position, the turning centre can be accessed safely, efficiently and quickly, further reducing set-up times.

In addition to various bar-feeding and automation solutions for the turned-parts industry, the Milton Keynes-based manufacturer is keen to promote its manufacture of bespoke systems. Managing director Martyn Page says: “As well as now offering a bar-feed for bar up to 102mm in diameter, we are creating bespoke units way above the 100mm-diameter spectrum.”
