Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Power Co of Thailand (known as PNPC) has received a $700 million loan package from four local banks to develop a 410MW hydro-power plant on the Boloven plateau in southern Laos.
PNPC is owned by four multi-national power companies: SK Engineering & Construction Co, Korea Western Power Co, Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding plc and Lao Holding State Enterprise. About 370MW of electricity produced by the power station will be distributed to Thailand’s Electricity Generating Authority under a 27-year agreement, with the rest serving to enhance Laos’s power system.
