In the high-end watch-making sub-contracting sector, the constraints imposed in terms of size, geometry and appearance are very strict and bring tough challenges for manufacturers. The Swiss company Cyberis has maintained steady growth and has bought more than 20 production machines over the last two years; it also plans to
purchase several SwissNano machines in the next few months.
The company uses several types of automatic turning machines from Tornos (
www.tornos.com), including the Micro7, Micro8 and Delta CNC types, as well as MS-7 cam machines, which are to be replaced by Tornos SwissNano machines. Didier Muriset, the director of the 30-employee company, says: “Although our operators are very
versatile and able to work on cam-type machines, we are planning to replace them and are currently testing our first SwissNano on different workpieces.
“We work for many of the major Swiss watch brands — in particular, the very high-end names — and we can’t afford even the slightest error; we simply aim for perfection.”
While Cyberis has invested heavily in its automatic turning machines over the last two years, this has not been the limit of its investment. Almost all the company’s products
require polishing operations, and in order to offer its customers a high level of flexibility and quality, Cyberis has bought equipment that allows it to undertake polishing and satin-finishing operations. The company also develops special tools and processes; for example, it has developed a means of undertaking stamping operations on Tornos Micro machines.
